Shapes of molecules - Chemical Ideas 3.2
The shape of a molecule depends on the number of groups of electrons. The different types of electron groups are bonding pairs (a single bond), two bonding pairs (a double bond), three bonding pairs (a triple bond) or a lone pair (pair of electrons that have not formed as a result of bonding with another electron from another element). All electrons have a negative charge and as a result electron groups repel each other as a result of this electron groups move as far apart as possible this case them to form various shapes and bond angles.
